Chinese and Mandarin are often used interchangeably in everyday searches, but they can refer to different project requirements.
Chinese Translation Services
Written Chinese documents may use Simplified or Traditional Chinese characters. Certificates, police records, academic documents, notarial records, legal documents and business material should generally be assessed as Chinese document translation.

Mandarin is primarily relevant to spoken communication, including meetings, interpreting, interviews, recordings, transcription and audio translation.

Language Translation FAQs
How many languages does Soror Language Services translate?
SLS provides translation services across more than 80 languages. Availability depends on the source and target language combination, subject matter, document type and project requirements.
Do all 80+ languages have their own webpage?
No. Dedicated pages are provided for frequently requested languages, while other language combinations can still be assessed and arranged subject to translator availability and project requirements.
Can you translate South African languages?
Yes. SLS handles South African language requirements including Afrikaans, isiZulu, isiXhosa, Sesotho, Setswana, Sepedi, siSwati, Tshivenda, Xitsonga and isiNdebele, subject to the specific language pair and project requirements.
Do you translate African languages outside South Africa?
Yes. Projects involving wider African languages can be assessed according to the source language, target language, subject matter and translator availability.
Do you translate both Simplified and Traditional Chinese?
Yes. Chinese document translation can involve Simplified or Traditional Chinese. Tell us where the document originates or send the document for assessment where you are unsure.
Is Mandarin the same as Chinese translation?
Mandarin is primarily a spoken Chinese variety, while written documents are normally treated as Chinese documents using Simplified or Traditional Chinese characters. Mandarin is therefore especially relevant for interpreting, transcription and audio translation.
Is Bengali also called Bangla?
Yes. Bengali is commonly referred to as Bangla. Both terms may be used when describing Bengali-language translation requirements.
Is Farsi the same as Persian?
Farsi is the common Persian-language name used for Iranian Persian. For translation purposes, tell us the country and document context where possible so that the correct language variety can be identified.
Is Swahili also called Kiswahili?
Yes. Kiswahili is the language's own name and Swahili is the widely used English name. Either term can be used when requesting a quote.
Do you translate between two languages other than English?
Some non-English language combinations can be arranged. Send us the exact source and target languages so that availability can be confirmed before the project begins.
Can translations be certified or sworn?
Certified and sworn translation options may be available where appropriate. The form required depends on the receiving authority, destination country and intended use.
Can you translate documents for immigration or visa applications?
Yes. SLS translates civil certificates, police clearances, academic records, financial documents, employment records and other supporting documents used in immigration and visa applications.
Do you provide transcription in different languages?
Yes. Multilingual transcription can be arranged for interviews, research, meetings, focus groups and other recordings, subject to language availability. English translation can also be added where required.
Do you provide interpreters in different languages?
Yes. Interpreting services can be arranged for selected languages and assignments subject to interpreter availability, location, date, duration and the type of interpreting required.
What if I do not know what language my document is written in?
Send us a clear copy of the document. We can assess the material and determine whether the language can be identified before arranging the appropriate translation service.
How do I request a translation quote?
Send a clear copy of the document together with the source language, target language, intended use and required turnaround. If the work involves an official submission, also provide the destination country and receiving authority where known.
