Turn Your Recordings into Clear, Usable Text

Soror Language Services provides professional transcription services in South Africa, converting spoken content into carefully reviewed and professionally formatted written documents.

We transcribe interviews, meetings, research recordings, presentations, focus groups, podcasts, webinars and consultations in English, South African languages and other available languages. Based in Johannesburg, we support clients throughout South Africa and internationally.

Rather than delivering an unchecked automated transcript, the finished document is reviewed against the recording for terminology, speaker identification, punctuation, context and formatting.

Because SLS is a full language-services company , recordings in another language can also be transcribed in the source language and translated into English as part of the same project.

Multilingual Expertise

Why Multilingual Recordings Need Specialist Handling

South African recordings can contain multiple languages, code-switching, several speakers, different accents and specialist terminology.

  • Original-language transcription
  • English translation when required
  • Consistent speaker identification
  • Human language review
  • Professional formatting
Common transcription projects: Research Interviews · Focus Groups · Meetings · Webinars · Voice Notes · Podcasts · Multilingual Interviews · Audio Translation

Our Multilingual Advantage

Three Transcript Styles

Tell us how closely the written transcript should follow the spoken recording and how you intend to use the finished document.

1

Clean-Read

Filler words, repeated phrases and unnecessary verbal pauses are removed while preserving the speaker's intended meaning.

Best for: business meetings, presentations, podcasts and general professional use.

2

Intelligent Verbatim

The speaker's wording is retained while excessive hesitation, false starts and irrelevant fillers are removed.

Best for: research interviews, focus groups and professional interviews.

3

Full Verbatim

Everything relevant and audible is transcribed, including fillers, repetitions, false starts, pauses and relevant non-verbal sounds.

Best for: research, investigative and other work where the exact spoken record is important.

Timestamped Transcription

Timestamps can be added at regular intervals, at speaker changes, requested sections or where audio is unclear.

Speaker Identification

Speakers can be labelled by name, role, job title, interviewer/participant or neutral identifiers such as Speaker 1 and Speaker 2.

Frequently Asked Questions

Transcription Service FAQs

How much does transcription cost?

Transcription rates start from R20.00 per audio minute, excluding VAT. Final pricing depends on factors such as recording quality, speaker count, language, transcript style, formatting requirements and turnaround. Translation and other additional services are quoted separately.

Can you transcribe recordings in South African languages?

Yes. South African-language transcription can be arranged subject to the language, recording and project requirements. This includes languages such as isiZulu, isiXhosa, Sesotho, Setswana, Afrikaans and English, with other languages assessed on request.

Can you handle recordings that switch between languages?

Yes. Multilingual and code-switched recordings can be assessed for transcription. This is common in South African interviews, focus groups, meetings and research recordings.

What is the difference between transcription and transcription + translation?

Transcription converts the spoken recording into written text in the language spoken. Transcription + translation provides the source-language transcript together with a translated version, such as an English translation.

Do you use automated transcription?

Technology may be used as a supporting tool where appropriate, but the completed transcript is reviewed against the original recording by a human professional. We do not present an unchecked automated transcript as the finished service.

How accurate will my transcript be?

Accuracy depends partly on the quality of the source recording, speaker clarity, background noise, accents and terminology. The completed transcript is reviewed by a human professional, and speech that cannot be heard reliably can be marked as unclear or inaudible rather than guessed.

How long does transcription take?

Turnaround depends on recording length, audio quality, speaker count, language, transcript style, translation requirements and current capacity. The expected delivery date is confirmed with your quotation.

Can I send a WhatsApp voice note?

Yes. WhatsApp voice notes and other mobile recordings can be sent for assessment and quotation.

Do you transcribe research interviews and focus groups?

Yes. We transcribe individual research interviews, focus groups, qualitative research recordings, dissertation and thesis interviews, fieldwork and multilingual research recordings.

Can you identify different speakers?

Yes. Speakers can be labelled by name, role, interviewer or participant, or using neutral labels such as Speaker 1 and Speaker 2. The appropriate method depends on the information available.

Can timestamps be included?

Yes. Timestamps can be added at agreed intervals, speaker changes, specific sections or where audio is unclear.

Can you translate a South African-language recording into English?

Yes, subject to language availability. The recording can first be transcribed in the source language and then translated into English. A bilingual presentation can also be discussed where useful.

Do you provide legal transcription?

Yes. Legal recordings such as arbitrations, hearings and proceedings are handled through our dedicated Legal Transcription service at legaltranslation.co.za.

Are my recordings confidential?

Yes. Client recordings, transcripts and project information are handled confidentially throughout the quotation, transcription, review and delivery process.
